Travel again with Portable Oxygen Concentrators

If you now use Medical Oxygen on a regular basis, you will most likely need Portable Oxygen whenever you travel.

There are several types of portable oxygen concentrators available for use when traveling, however, not all types are allowed for use during flight. Medical Department Store prides itself on the ability to offer the advice needed to select the appropriate POC (portable oxygen concentrator), with the expertise to help you choose the system that is right for your travel plans, your health requirements, and your personal preferences.

Policies concerning the use of oxygen inflight vary among all airlines. Contact your airline or check your airline’s Web site to obtain its specific guidelines on oxygen use during flight

Currently most airlines will require a “Physician’s Statement,” a written authorization signed by your physician verifying your need for oxygen therapy. This document will also outline your oxygen delivery requirements that you and the airline need to know.

Currently the following models are FFA approved for travel:

If your system is not a FAA-approved POC, you will not be permitted to take it with you or used on the aircraft.

When flying it is the responsibility of client to provide a sufficient number of batteries to power the concentrator for the duration of the flight. Most airlines require that the client have 3 times the flights length in batteries to board the flight.

POC units may be rented or purchased. Since they can be run on batteries or a power source, some models can run up to 8 hours on a single charge, with a few extra charged batteries and extended travel options also available.

Whether cruising, flying or traveling by car, a Portable Oxygen Concentrator can give you the independence and the ability to visit, and travel again!

Mobility Scooter & Electric Wheelchair Batterys

Posted on: August 8th, 2012 in Mobility Scooter by medicaldepartmentstore |

Plain and simple, not all mobility scooter and power wheelchair batteries are the same, and you shouldn’t settle for a cheap substitute. Although a wet/acid design is initially less expensive and can provide about 10 percent more running time per charge than a gel/sealed battery of equal size, a wet lead/acid battery has a much shorter service life, requires regular maintenance and poses a much higher safety risk because of potential battery acid contact or explosion.

An MK gel/sealed battery, instead provides an inherently safer, truly maintenance-free design. MK batteries provide a significantly longer life, averaging 1 to 2 years or longer when properly maintained – and are available in models approved by major airlines and other public transportation providers.

You know what happens with the cheap knock off batteries. Their running time is short, do you want to go through the hassle of replacing your electric wheelchairs or Electric Mobility scooter batteries every six months.

Our easy reference sheet makes choosing your scooter battery or charger easy. If you still have questions, please call us at 866-218-0902.

Erectile Dysfunction Pump

How does the ED pump work?

The pump, whether battery operated or manual operated, is placed over the penis. The air is then pumped out creating a vacuum. The effects of the vacuum drawing blood into the shaft of the penis causing the penis to become erect.

A restriction band is then slipped off of the pump tube and onto the base of the erect penis and the pump is removed. The restriction band is left in place for up to 30 minutes to allow for intercourse.

 Are there side effects?

Yes, however most are mild. You may have a slight decrease in the force of the ejaculation, as the restriction band may restrict part of the ejaculate.

Are there different models?

Yes, there a number of models on the market of both manual and battery-powered pumps. Manual erection pumps as have to be manually pumped to make a vacuum, while battery-powered erection models use a battery to operate the pump and produce a vacuum.

Full-Electric Hospital Bed versus Semi-Electric Hospital beds:

Full-Electric bed: Head, foot, and bed height is adjustable via the hand control. The full-electric bed has an additional motor for raising/lowering bed height.

Semi-Electric bed: Head and foot are adjustable with the hand control, the bed can be raised/lowered, but with a manual handcrank (this usually set to a good height for the patient and left at that position).

HI- Low Hospital Bed- Are used for patient that suffer from falls and disorientation at night, the bed lowers to just inches above the floor at night and raises to standard height for ease of use

Manual Hospital Bed – Head and foot are both adjustable, however a crank is required to operate the bed

1)The convenience for both the caretaker and the patient makes the price difference insignificant.
2)Easier for patient to get into or out of bed by using simple hand pendant control.
3)Patient may want the bed low to the ground while sleeping, and higher for getting up and out of the bed.

**Please Note: That both the Semi Electric & the Full Electric beds can be operated by a hand crank in the event of power failure. The hand crank is included with each bed.

Patient Lifts / Hoyer Lifts

Posted on: August 16th, 2011 in Patient Lifts by medicaldepartmentstore |

A Patient lift, or Hoyer lift, is a mechanism that uses hydraulic power or battery power for transferring a patient from a place to another. This product is used in hospitals as well as patients’ homes.  Caregivers rely on patient lifts to assist in moving patients who are incapable or severely limited in movement and those that are a bit heavy to be lifted.

Based from price difference, a manually-operated Patient lift gives more control for the user through its hydraulic cylinder and hand-pumps for control. The Battery Patient lifts are convenient to operate through button controls and use of battery packs for power source.  The Battery Patient Lift is favored use for most caregivers because of the comfort and ease of use it offers.

For patients that only need support for rehabilitation and are capable of holding up some weight, there is a Sit to Stand-up lift, a product that can help a client up from the sitting position.  With Bariatric patients or those who are too heavy to be lifted manually, there is the Heavy-duty Patient lift which can hold a weight of up to 1000 lbs.

All Hoyer lifts/ Patient Lift require a Patient lift sling to cradle and lift the patient.

The Medical Department Store carries a wide variety of Patient Lifts to and Patient Slings to meet your patient’s needs.

Swift Lt Cpap Mask

Posted on: September 25th, 2008 in Uncategorized by medicaldepartmentstore |
The best in Cpap Masks

The best in Cpap Masks

Resmed Cpap Masks

Many people, when they find out they have apnea, are really put off by CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) or BiPAP (Bi-level Positive Airway Pressure) machines. I mean, you put on this mask thing, and breathe into it, and it blows air. With a non-conforming mask, regardless of the type or style using it impossible.

However I have been using a CPAP for 3 years now, I am overjoyed with the new Swift LT mask by Resmed, I have tried about all of the Different Styles of Masks over the years have had leaks, sores and occasionally I slept.

It a Nasal Pillow Mask, small and better, I my opinion, than the previous Swift II or any others designs and styles, that I had unfortunately used with limited success. Resmed has done a great job in slimming the mask down from its the Swift II version, a much light feel, reducing the the impact and claustrophobic feel of most CPAP masks on the market today.

In all fairness a great second choice is the Opitilife with its channel cushion design, was a good second place favorite. In this Authors opinion, as well as a long time CPAP user. The new Swift LTis worth a try and a goods night sleep is the benefit.

Its a great product set up for me with my friends at Medical Department Store “Mark” did a great job. I recommend calling them for your CPAP needs 1-800-741-1762, at the Medical Department Store.

I love the mask
